Position: Museum Curator Salary £30,000 - £37,000 per annum Contract: 2 years fixed term contract (with potential to be extended) 36 hours per week Location: London One of our clients, a museum holding the world's most extensive maritime collections require a Curator, to ensure contemporary maritime matters are considered, promoted and discussed. They are dedicated to enriching people's understanding of sea, space and Britain’s place in world history. They have recently built a new collections and conservation facility, to help us continue our mission to highlight the importance of the sea to our nation both now and in the past. They are seeking an engaging and passionate individual to communicate to the general public making links between the historical and the contemporary using the Museums collections and expertise. This post will cover a wide variety of maritime issues, including environmental, cultural and industrial, and will help promote and stimulate wider public understanding, awareness and interest in maritime matters, the Museum and the supporting charity. As well as being directly involved in the Museums visitor programmes; you will manage and develop relationships with key stakeholders, relevant agencies and public and academic networks to ensure their ongoing support and involvement with the work of the Museum. Attendance of conferences and seminars are a vital part of this, allowing you to maintain professional networks, and to be pro-active in developing the Museums reputation. With degree level education or equivalent and exceptional knowledge of the maritime sector, you must demonstrate strong communication and networking skills. You should also be passionate about using historic collections in the broader cultural sector. Experience working in museums, universities &/or the media would be welcomed but is not essential.
